WHAT IS PILATES

Pilates is a complete exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen the muscles, increase flexibility, and improve overall health. Exercises are performed on a mat or specially designed equipment.  The Pilates system works every part of the body, with concentration placed on working from the "powerhouse" or center of the body. Movements emphasize form and alignment as well as breathing  and flow.  The method works to improve posture, balance, and efficiency of movement in each person's daily activities.

CORE/CARDIO

Exercises work your center or "powerhouse." When done up to pace, Pilates is a deeply invigorating workout that will make you sweat!

STRENGTH/STRETCH

Pilates engages muscles all over the body during each exercise.  There is no leg day or arm day. All muscles work together! Strength and stretch are gained by working against the resistance of the springs.​

ENERGY/ENDURANCE

All movement starts with breath. Learning to inhale and exhale deeply helps to enhance each exercise, promotes energy, and builds endurance for the cardiovascular system.
